Buying A Usable Camcorder

It is all to easy these days to comparison shop on the internet for almost everything that you need to buy. You can easily check out the best features list and compare the prices for the best buy. But for camcorders will it be the best buy and will you be making the wrong choice.

There is nothing better than a hands on approach to buying your digital camcorder. Doing your initial research online to weed out the poor camcorders is fine but at some stage you need to visit a store and actually handle the camcorders to see how they feel in your hand and see if they are easy to operate. Maybe you have long slender fingers or short fat ones and find using the controls difficult. Will you be able to find all the features and will you need to be a ‘techie’ just to use the basic menu commands.

If you find your propective new HDD camcorder difficult to operate then you can bet your life that other people will be in the same boat. We are not buying a $3000 pro-camcorder here but just a basic camcorder good enough to make videos for your website. If you find it difficult then look elsewhere and let the manufacturers worry about producing what customers really want.

Despite the fact that there is an industry that specialices in ‘Usability Research’ or ‘User Centered Design’ manufacturers still produce camcorders that get low marks in reviews. Maybe they don’t listen to the afore mentioned people or are confident that their camcorders will sell anyway. Here are a few things to look out for when handling a camcorder.

Tiny Buttons: Can be difficult to press the right button without touching another one. Best avoided unless you have tiny hands.

Confusing Icons: Check to see if the icons are industry standard and easily understood or are there strange looking ones that will not prompt you at all.

Menu Labyrinth: This can be a real problem for most people but do look to see that the main camcorder menu functions are easily found and accessible.

Speed: When you choose a menu item does it react quickly or is there a built in lag which can become tedious as you grow more confident and use different settings.

Idiot Proof: How easy is it to mess up and do something catastrophic like wiping out the memory card.

Do try out the camcorders but remember the more help you get from an assistant then the more obligated you should feel to purchase. Don’t assume that the camcorder will be easier to use after you have purchased it. If you can’t figure out how to operate it now then you might be in the same position in a months time.

Finally, don’t be seduced by the latest technology. Give it time and read reviews and let any improvements be made before committing to the technology. After all miniDV has been around over ten years and is still great technology for website video producers.

Camcorder Batteries

Posted by mamaoon | Posted in Compare Camcorders Articles | Posted on 31-08-2010

Digital camcorders of today have come along with highly efficient batteries that last longer and give you the utmost satisfaction. Camcorder makers in the recent years have striven ahead in making the battery life longer and longer. Thus, the hassle of charging your battery every time you need to shoot is minimized.

Reputable camcorder manufacturers like Sony, JVC, Panasonic, and Canon are now competing to give you a better battery performer. Meanwhile, the sizes of these camcorders–whether a DVD format or not-are getting smaller and smaller each day. With miniaturization arises the problem: a small camcorder means a smaller battery that would need to remain charged for a longer time span.

Most of these models, however, run on lithium batteries that not only last longer but also give better results. Professional camcorders, from the Sony or Canon genre for example, do give up to a three-year warranty on their batteries. But the market has something else to offer as well: unbranded but great performers. Lithium batteries made by less-reputed brands also work well. Thus, professional shooters as well as amateurs are increasingly depending upon these versions after the original battery dies out, as the less well-known brands are cheaper and continue to give the same output.

But while purchasing these unbranded batteries from a retail outlet in your city or from an online store, take caution. You need to understand few criteria. You should compare prices and warranties, if available, on the battery. The credibility of the online store or the manufacturer and the longevity of the power provider can be of much help to you. It has occurred many a time that people have simply paid for a particular battery on the web and are still finding it difficult to have it delivered.

Panasonic TC-P50G10 Vs Panasonic TC-P50S1

Choosing the right HDTV is not an easy task, especially with many models to choose from. One way of narrowing down your choices, though, is by selecting a brand then comparing two of the best models of that brand, like the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1.

Let’s start by comparing the design of the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1. Both have impressive glossy black frames with fashionable hidden speakers a silver strip at the bottom. What sets them apart, though, is that the TC-P50S1 has more rounded edges while the TC-P50G10 has a fading silver tinge below the strip and a thinner frame. In fact, you will find few Plasma televisions with a thicker frame than the TC-P50G10. They both have glossy black stands that still don’t swivel, but the TC-P50G10 comes with one that’s round instead of the usual rectangular one.

When it comes to picture quality, the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50S1 have the same basic strengths and weaknesses, namely the ability to create outstandingly deep black levels combined with excellent shadow detail and the lack in color accuracy, respectively. The TC-P50G10 has a THX mode, though, which gives it an edge over the TC-P50S1. In this mode, TC-P50G10 displays even better images, with better shadow detail and increased color accuracy, allowing it to better recreate the movie theatre experience.

Next, let’s take a closer look at the connectivity options. Both the TC-P50G10 and the TC-P50G10 do well in this aspect, offering three HDMI inputs and a SD card slot which allows you to share your digital photos via the Viera Image Viewer feature. The TC-P50G10 has more to offer, though, with a VGA input where you can plug in your computer, an analog audio output and an ethernet port to facilitate the Viera Cast feature.

The Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1 are also packed with many great features. Both HDTV models have the Viera Link, which, similar to the Bravia Sync of Sony HDTVs, allows you to turn all your compatible devices on and off with the push of a single button. These devices include your DVD recorder, Blu-Ray player, HD camcorder and even your surround sound speakers. Both models also come with a game mode and an anti-reflective filter, as well as features to prevent and treat screen burn-in, which is one of the most common problems with Plasma televisions.

One feature which sets the TC-P50G10 apart from the TC-P50S1 and previous HDTV models, though, is the Viera Cast mentioned earlier. This feature allows you to enjoy online content such as YouTube videos, Picasa web albums and Amazon Video on Demand, and other important information such as the latest stock market trends and weather reports, on a user-friendly web interface built into your HDTV. This means that you don’t need to have a computer to access all these. However, you will need an active internet connection and an ethernet line.

In terms of energy consumption, both HDTV models consume less energy than many Plasma televisions, particularly since they have a new type of Plasma panel called the NEO PDP panel. The TC-P50S1, in particular, qualifies for an Energy Star 3.0 rating with its relatively dim default picture setting. In spite of this, though, both models are still far from being as energy efficient as LCD televisions.

Other similarities include simple on-screen menus, though the Panasonic TC-P50G10 has two more color temperature presets, as well as the tag prices they come with. Indeed, the TC-P50G10 is only slightly more expensive, and with its excellent additions, it certainly comes out as the winner when choosing between the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and the Panasonic TC-P50S1.

HF200 Camcorder Has a Place in Our Home

Posted by mamaoon | Posted in Compare Camcorders Articles | Posted on 28-08-2010

Not long ago my wife bought me the HF200 Camcorder for our wedding anniversary. On a whole, I really love the camcorder, but there are a couple of things I wished I knew about before I asked for it.

When it comes to compact and lightweight design, the HF200, ticks all the boxes. It is s easy to hold and manage to use the buttons, especially considering I am forever tying to film with a toddler hanging off me. The buttons are easy to navigate and manage, and I certainly don’t have the time to put aside to learn all the fancy options that come with the HF200 Camcorder. I can easily just point and shoot and still come up with some great footage.

The picture quality is like real life. My old camcorder used to have trouble in anything that wasn’t perfectly lit. The HF200 Camcorder gives true to life colouring to every object in shot, and the graininess is n existent.

I said there were some things that I wasn’t completely thrilled with when it came to my HF200 Camcorder. One of them is battery life. Unless I have the fore thought of charging my HF200 Camcorder completely prior to use, I wont get the full hour and a half battery time. This means any time I want to take some impromptu footage, I have to keep my fingers crossed there’s enough life left. The other thing is that I have to connect it to my pc to transfer footage caught. I really would have preferred to have a memory card where I can download it anywhere and any time I want.

Overall, I am thrilled to be the new owner of my HF200 Camcorder. For all the things that I need to shoot, and all the memories we are clocking up and recording, I know that this is definitely one tool that will have its place in our home for years to come.

How Do Generic Aftermarket Batteries Compare With Name Brand Batteries?

Posted by mamaoon | Posted in Compare Camcorders Articles | Posted on 28-08-2010

0

Do aftermarket batteries have the same capability and longevity as their branded counterparts? In a simple word – yes – but what aftermarket batteries bring to customers (in addition to long life performance and similar technical ratings and components) is affordability.

Big brand companies get big in terms of sales and number of units sold for four reasons – product availability and reliability, marketing and advertising on a mass scale, and the ability to fulfill their product to customers. Overtime these four components will turn any company into a Big Brand – but at a price. There is a direct association between the price of product and the company’s cost. The lower the costs the lower the price – the higher the costs the higher the price you will have to pay.

As a customer of batteries what is mission critical is that your device (whether it is a laptop, PDA, two-way radio, power tool, or flashlight) works on battery power. Your device does not care whether you have a big brand battery name on it or a generic aftermarket battery!

What is important to your device is that your voltage, capacity, chemistry, and all the internal and external components meet the specific design needs of your device. For example take Apple’s EC003 (the iPod Mini). The iPod Mini requires the following technical requirements:

The exact physical dimensions for the battery compartment

Lithium Ion Chemistry

3.7 volts

a minimum of 400 mAh

the necessary hardware (connector, fuse, charge and discharge FETs, cell pack, sense resistor, primary and secondary protection ICs, fuel-gauge IC, thermistor, PC board, and the EEPROM or firmware for the fuel-gauge IC)

Now outside of the above technical requirements the iPod Mini does not care if the battery comes from Apple or any other third party just as long as it is “100% OEM Compatible and Guaranteed to meet or exceed OEM specifications”.

So if aftermarket replacement batteries are “100% OEM Compatible and Guaranteed to meet or exceed OEM specifications” AND if aftermarket batteries are considerably lower in price why do people opt to buy OEM or branded batteries? Because consumers have been conditioned to buy the big brands because of the clever marketing and advertising that marketers pour over and over consumers.

Now I’m sure one may come with the argument that aftermarket batteries have a higher failure rate then branded batteries – but I can tell you that having been a direct part of the aftermarket and BIG brand market for 13 years (with various companies) – every manufacture and company has defects. It is a part of manufacturing regardless of the manufacturer’s name. Acceptable defect rates float between 1-2% of all units shipped. In manufacturing there is no such thing as 0% defect rate. That is why you have a product warranty with parts (money back periods and extended warranty periods).

So now since the aftermarket or NON-OEM batteries have a low defect rate, low product cost, and the exact same specs as the OEMs the only thing that would stop you from buying aftermarket batteries is your marketing condition and the size of your wallet!

What You Should Know When Choosing Digital Video Camcorders

Posted by mamaoon | Posted in Compare Camcorders Articles | Posted on 27-08-2010

Owning one of the many digital video camcorders offers a person the luxury of being high tech without even trying. These are great devices that can help a person store their memories because they are lightweight and fairly simple to use. Before a person purchases a video recorder of the digital type, they should understand all of their options and know how to go about choosing the best one to fit their needs.

Digital video camcorders come in a variety of styles for each consumer. Individuals can choose to have digital recorders that record on tape, DVD, or to the hard drive that is located inside the camcorder. The digital camcorder that is most popular and most reasonably priced is the one that uses the Mini DV tape.

These run for approximately three hundred dollars and are the easiest to operate for those who are not interested in editing or dealing with an array of functions. However, the other types are great to own and eventually, just as with Beta tapes, the world of camcorders will no longer operate using tapes.

When people are considering a digital recorder over an analog type, the main advantage is that the digital camcorders allow for hooking up to a computer to store, transfer and even edit film. Compared to analog camcorders, the digital camcorder does not lose quality of picture or sound when transferring data.

However, if a person is going from digital to VHS tape, then some quality loss should be expected, but it will be very minimal. Since the world of today is so computer focused, individuals should definitely consider purchasing a digital camcorder over the analog ones. The long term results will far outweigh the short term gain.

Digital video camcorders can offer the consumer so much more than their predecessors ever thought of doing. A person can transfer a video to someone who is living four thousand miles away with just a click of a button.

This allows for long distance families to stay close no matter how many miles separates them. A person must do their homework if they are going to get the most for their money when comes to owing a digital camcorder.

What Makes the Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder So Great

Posted by mamaoon | Posted in Compare Camcorders Articles | Posted on 26-08-2010

0

In stark contrast to the olden times when people had to rely on their own memory and imagination to visualize things, people in modern society expect to be able to capture any event as a digital still or video, ready to be shared with the entire online world in an instant. The release of the first camera-equipped cell phone got the ball rolling, enabling people to have a quick way of snapping any picture on them at all times; such do-it-all feature rich phones are becoming increasingly common. Now, the Flip Video Ultra series digital camcorder from Pure Digital Technologies, inc. has stormed the marketplace, offering better video quality than a cell phone’s with similar portability.

What is the Flip Video Ultra digital camcorder?

The Flip Video Ultra series is a product line from the startup company Pure Digital Technologies, designed to offer the user an easy-to-use, highly portable digital camcorder. By underselling its competitors on the release of its products, The Pure Digital created an instant buzz in the world of digital video. These camcorders come in 1 GB (about 30 minutes rated capacity) and 8 GB (two hour) models.

What is great about the Flip Video Ultra series camcorders?

- The camcorders are quite small, being the size of a pack of cigarettes in the words of one customer who reviewed the 2 GB model. To be exact, its dimensions are: 1.2 inches by 2.2 inches by 4.2 inches; its shipping weight is 1 pound.

- These camcorders are easy to use, with only four buttons. Simply hit “record” to begin recording and press it again to stop. Press “play” to play back video, “delete” to delete an entry, or “zoom” to control the digital zoom.

- A built-in microphone next to the recording lens captures sound

- Transferring files to your computer is easy with the supplied fold-out USB arm. Pressing the USB release button causes the spring-loaded USB arm to pop out, and then the camcorder can be plugged directly into any of your computer’s USB ports. The USB interface is USB 2.0 ready for faster file transfer, and the use of a pop-out arm eliminates the need for wires, though a female-to-male USB extender can provide greater flexibility if, for example, your USP ports are located halfway up a desktop CPU tower.

- Upon interfacing your Flip Ultra camcorder with your computer via USB port, a helpful wizard will load to guide you through the transfer of files from the camcorder to your computer’s hard drive.

- The software also provides quick links for posting video to YouTube or AOL video.

- Being a dedicated video device, the image quality it can deliver is significantly better than that which you get from a cell phone, and you can store a greater amount of video.

- A TV playback port is supplied, as well as a tripod mount.

- No memory cards are required due to the Flip Ultra’s internal memory.

- The camcorder comes with a drawstring bag and a set of batteries so that you can carry it easily and shoot video right away.

If you would like a small, portable, and easy to use digital camcorder for impromptu use, the Flip Video Ultra camcorder was designed for you. These camcorders fit easily in a purse or jacket pocket, and can shoot video instantly with their easy-to-use interface. Should this camcorder appeal to you, more information can be found online or at your online retailer of choice.
